| A Psalm of David. 1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When the wicked came against me To eat up my flesh, My enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell. 3 Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear; Though war may rise against me, In this I will be confident. 4 One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple. 5 For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock. 6 And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me; Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD. 7 Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice! Have mercy also upon me, and answer me. 8 When You said, "Seek My face," My heart said to You, "Your face, LORD, I will seek." |
| When the psalmist David was being hunted down by his enemies, he never forget one thing -- to draw near to God, to seek His face, and to dwell in Him. When David did so, he became fearless, because he knew that God would protect him and hide him in secret place, and not only so, God would also lift him high upon a rock to have victory over his enemies. At this point of time, although the outward circumstance was unchanged and David was still being hunted down by his enemies, he could not help but to joyfully offer sacrifice and sing praises to God. When we face troubles and difficulties, we should also never forget this one most important thing -- to return to God, to wait upon and put our hope in Him, and to abide in Christ. In the New Testament, Mary had chosen this one indispensable thing in front of Jesus, and received better blessings; Paul considered all things rubbish, except pursuing this one thing all of his life, in order to win the prize for which God had called him heavenward in Christ Jesus. When we shift our focus to this one thing, even though the outward circumstance is not changed, we could also boast victory in Christ like David, and offer praise sacrifice to God, praise Him for looking after all who depends on Him, praise Him for putting up an invisible fence to protect us, praise Him for hiding us in the cleft of His rock, praise Him for because of Him we are more than victorious! |
